International Program of the 2007-2008
Representing the International President’s slogan “Challenge to Change” , the logo is set against the backdrop of lotus petals to symbolize the opening of the human mind to the conscious awakening and wisdom and the need for change. The Central lion holding a sword in its right paw, is taken from the national flag of the President’s home country, the Republic of Sri Lanka. In the Presidential Logo of 2007-2008, this national symbol along with the logo of the Lions Clubs International surrounded by the lotus petals together, depict the President’s ‘Challenge’ for the Lions of the world to meet the rapid changes in the environment, enabling them to accomplish their mission. It is universally accepted that change is inevitable and that the rate of change in the world in the future will be faster than in the past”.

WHY CHANGE?
• Reasons why trend is likely to continue
• Average club size getting smaller, from 36 members down to 29 over last 20 years.
• Average new club is smaller
• Vast number of clubs are under 20 members
• For last several years, clubs are dropping 4.3 members but only adding 3.1 each year-and gap is widening
• 48% members leaving in 3 years.
• Significantly aging membership in several large countries.
• Tipping point could be near-even faster annual declines may happen soon.

EVERY TRADITION WAS ORIGINALLY A GOOD IDEA-AND PERHAPS EVEN REVOLUTIONARY BUT EVERY TRADITION MAY NOT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR THE FUTURE.“WE MUST BE THE CHANGE, WE WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD”
-Mahatma Gandhi.
