Lion.Mahendra Amarasuriya of Colombo, Sri Lanka, was elected
to serve as First Vice-President of The International Association of Lions Clubs
at the association’s 89th International Convention, held in Boston,USA, June 30
- July 4, 2006. A member of the Galle Lions Club, President Amarasuriya has held
many offices within the association including district governor and international
director. He has received the 100% District Governor Award, Extension Award and
the 15 Year Perfect Attendance Award. He is currently a Trustee of the Eye Donation
Society of Sri Lanka and is the Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Sri
Lanka. In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous
awards in recognition of his contribution to the association, including a Membership
Award, Advanced Membership Award, Master Key Award, six International President’s
Awards, 8 International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, the Leadership
Award and the Ambassador of Goodwill Award, the highest honour bestowed upon association
members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his Lions
activities, President Amarasuriya is the Chairman of a bank and three other companies
in addition to being a member of the boards of many blue chip companies in Sri Lanka.
A past chairperson of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon and a past member of the
Employees’ Trust Fund Board, he is also the Chairman of the National Agribusiness Council
of Sri Lanka. President Amarasuriya resides with his wife Kushlani in Colombo, Sri
Lanka.
