Introduction

The NetAdvantage for .NET install contains both ASP.NET and Windows Forms controls, the NetAdvantage for Windows Forms install contains only Windows Forms controls, the NetAdvantage for ASP.NET install contains only ASP.NET controls, while the NetAdvantage AppStylist install contains only the NetAdvantage AppStylist application.

NetAdvantage CAB Extensibility Kit

The NetAdvantage CAB Extensibility Kit™ is an add-on to the NetAdvantage for Windows Forms CLR 2.0 product. This add-on allows your NetAdvantage for Windows Forms toolset to interoperate with the Microsoft Composite UI Application Block (CAB) framework.

For more details on the NetAdvantage CAB Extensibility Kit, refer to the "NetAdvantage CAB Extensibility Kit" section in the NetAdvantage for Windows Forms help. This help section is located in the Developer’s Guide > The Toolset section.

Installation Notes
  1. All included assemblies have been built against the Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 RTM build. You must have either the 2.0 RTM build of the framework installed for the product to work.
  2. You must be logged in as an Administrator to install this product. This user must also have permissions to update the system registry.
  3. The install should be run from a local hard drive. You might encounter issues if it is run from a network drive.
  4. Microsoft Visual Studio must be closed while installing NetAdvantage for .NET and any of the NetAdvantage utilities (e.g. Toolbox utility).
  5. This installation will stop and restart IIS in order to install the ASP.NET assemblies, scripts, and virtual folders. This is a DEVELOPER installation package. Please do not use this install to deploy. Review the product help for deployment topics.
  6. If you encounter an error during installation stating that your license key is invalid, first confirm that the correct key was entered. If the entered key is correct, cancel the installation (do not "install as trial"), reboot your computer, and run the install again. This will ensure the incorrect license key value is cleared from the internal cache.
  7. You do not need to uninstall NetAdvantage for .NET in order to convert a previously installed trial version of the product to a licensed version. To license your existing installation, simply run the installer again and enter your license key when prompted
  8. If you install any combination of the NetAdvantage for .NET installs and remove one of them at a later time, this might result in known issues. To resolve these, please re-install the appropriate NetAdvantage for .NET install needed.
  9. Windows Server 2003: In order for the ASP.NET samples to run correctly on the Windows Server 2003 operating system, permissions need to be granted to the IIS Worker Process. This can be achieved by granting the IIS_WPG user account full access to the following subfolders of the NetAdvantage install folder:
    1. ASP.NET\Samples\Data
    2. ASP.NET\Samples\CS\WebCharts\ChartImages
    3. ASP.NET\Samples\VB\WebCharts\ChartImages
  10. Windows Vista:
    1. To successfully run NetAdvantage installs on Windows Vista, User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled. This setting is enabled by default. To disable UAC, do the following:
      1. Type "msconfig" in the Run From Start menu to open "System Configuration".
      2. Select the "Tools" Tab in System Configuration.
      3. Select the "Disable UAC" tool and click on the "Launch" button.
      4. Restart the computer. (This is required to reflect the updated settings.)
    2. If IIS is installed, certain steps need to be taken prior to running this installer. These steps are documented in the Infragistics Knowledge Base Article KB09983. After following these steps, you should be able to successfully install NetAdvantage.
    3. After installing NetAdvantage on Windows Vista with IIS installed, NetAdvantage for ASP.NET samples need to be manually configured in order to run the ASP.NET Samples Browser. Setup steps are documented in KB Article KB09983 provided above.
  11. NetAdvantage AppStylist Style Library Files: If you modify one of the installed Infragistics Style Library (*.isl) files and wish to save the changes for later, ensure that you save your changes as a different file. This will ensure that your customized .isl files are not overwritten by a NetAdvantage hot fix or removed during a NetAdvantage uninstall.
  12. Side-By-Side Help Installations: If you install multiple versions of the NetAdvantage product (e.g., ProductVersion A [NetAdvantage 2006 Volume 3 CLR 1.x] and ProductVersion B [NetAdvantage 2006 Volume 3 CLR 2.0]), you should be aware of the following:
    1. The help that is installed with the product that you install last overrides the help of the previously installed product. For example, if you install ProductVersion A, then ProductVersion B, the help of ProductVersion B overrides the help of ProductVersion A.
    2. You can reinstall the help of another product version by uninstalling and reinstalling the product. For example, if you install ProductVersion A, then ProductVersion B, the help of ProductVersion B overrides the help of ProductVersion A. To obtain the help of ProductVersion A, uninstall and reinstall ProductVersion A. The ProductVersion A help will override the ProductVersion B help.
    3. To view multiple versions of the NetAdvantage help, you can view the online help on the Infragistics website.
